Bradfield College, founded as a boys' boarding school in 1850, has also admitted girls into the sixth form since 1989, and full coeducation throughout the school was introduced in September 2005.
Bradfield College is in Bradfield, Berkshire (postcode RG7 6AU, OS map reference SU603725). For more information on Bradfield try this website. For maps, directions and pictures go to the College's own website.
The Accommodation
All Course members will be accommodated in single rooms; none of the rooms are ensuite although each has a washbasin. There are ample showers, washbasins and toilets close to each room.
All linen, duvets, etc are supplied but you will need to bring your own soap, towels, dressing gown and coat hangers.
All the rooms have beds (not bunk beds). The houses have the majority of the sleeping accommodation on the first floor or above. Several of the houses are four stories – so no ladders but certainly a few stairs.
Please bear in mind, though, that Bradfield College is a school, not a five-star hotel. The rooms are sparsely furnished study-bedrooms only – some in new blocks and others in older buildings – and they all have their own particular personalities. Some students find this extremely captivating but some are taken aback by it. The great majority of people don't find it a problem, but if you think you'll be unhappy in a room falling short of luxury, this isn’t the course for you!
Food and Drink
The food, though, is universally agreed to be extremely good. All meals are self-service, as are the coffee, tea and biscuits mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Vegetarian options are always available and special diets will be catered for if notified in advance.
The nearest Public House is 1½ miles away in the next village.
There is a special Late Lounge, sound-proofed from all bedrooms, for those who wish to participate in a sociable atmosphere – with or without a glass in their hand – after 11:00pm. But please supply your own alcoholic drinks.
The Cocoa and Chat Room will, hopefully, be in the Wardens' Room that is light, airy and looks out onto the quad.
Other Facilities
The school has very pleasant grounds.
Finding Your Way Around
When you come we will supply you with a detailed map of all the school buildings and grounds so that you can find your way around.
Damage
Fortunately, ringers are all safe and careful people, but if you do cause damage to the school or its equipment, you will be personally liable for it.
Vacating Your Room
You will need to vacate your room before lunch on Sunday. A lockable classroom will be available to leave your luggage in, under the watchful eye of Margaret.
